24 Nov What I Wish I Knew at 22?
I just read a great post on what influencers wished they knew at 22, and I have to say I’m definitely not on the same page! For example, some people wished they could go back and tell their 22 year old self “Loyalty pays off”, “Taking time off won’t ruin your future”, “Be kind to yourself”, “Be patient”, “Do the right thing” and so on. But not me- there is nothing I know now that I wish I knew at 22!
Don’t get me wrong, this does not mean I was doing everything right, and it really doesn’t mean things were going smoothly. Actually, it means the opposite! I was making one mistake after another. I had years jammed packed with the misguided and painful consequences of my youth. Nonetheless, I deeply believe we are all exactly where we are, doing exactly what we are supposed to be doing, at every moment in time. And, if you change any moment, you change the journey. The benefit of getting older is you have a history, you can look back upon. For me looking back clearly shows that each of us, including me, has a unique journey and every moment – good or bad – was designed to teach us exactly what we needed to learn. I was naive, young, smart, optimistic, highly motivated, enthusiastic, careless and driven; a combination that afforded me the opportunity to rack up mistakes and bad choices back to back, one after another, and in my case not knowing any better was the gift that kept me going! I am certain, knowing any more than I did at any moment, might have ruined or at the very least changed the whole thing. If I had been one tiny bit wiser, I would have made different decisions and I may have missed out on one of the mistakes essential to making me the person I am today. And who I am today, is precisely who I am meant to be.
So please be 22! Just be you and trust you will learn and know and get what you need as you move along.
